HEALTH PROGRAMS

-Health habits that are developed in childhood are more likely to be carried throughout life.

-Many times children have choices about their life-styles but fail to realize the importance of their decisions or are uninformed about which choices are the most sensible.

-Through the use of games, videos, work sheets, puzzles, and classroom discussion, children are taught to develop wise decision making.  They learn that healthy habits play a vital role in not only physical health, but also figures highly in mental attitudes, coping, performance, and emotional outlook.

SELF ESTEEM

TRAVELING WITH SELF ESTEEM is a program available for students in all grades.  Great educators always have recognized the important link between self esteem and behavior.  How people feel about themselves largely determines how they behave.  This influence also is further seen in how individuals act towards others and their world. After completing the self esteem program, children should better recognize and appreciate their good qualities and realize the importance of acknowledging and verbalizing positive  messages to others.  This program can be a one day event, or within a specified time period which suits the teacher's needs.

TOBACCO RISK AWARENESS

BLUE SKY BELOW MY FEET

How do people manage to work, eat and sleep in space without gravity to keep them from floating away?  This and other space-related questions are explored in a three unit series dealing with Forces, Fibers, and Food.  Fourth through sixth graders will learn about space food and how good nutrition helps us meet challenges, whether on earth or in space.  Students also will discover how space suits are made and the difference between synthetic and natural fibers.  Teaching materials include nine teacher-ready lesson plans complete with student handouts.  Three 30 minute videos tapes complement the various units dealing with forces, fibers, and foods.  This 4-H space science series was developed with assistance from NASA and USDA.
